On the sandy shoreline of Omaha Beach.

Plaque

A rectangular black plaque is mounted on a large natural boulder on Omaha Beach (known as Rays Rock), commemorating the Combat Medics of the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, who treated the wounded under heavy fire during the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. It features a combat medic insignia and the divisions Big Red One emblem, followed by a bilingual dedication in English and French. Below, the names, ranks, and roles of medics from the regiments 2nd Battalion are listed, with crosses indicating those killed in action.

COMBAT MEDICS,
16TH INFANTRY REGIMENT,
1ST INFANTRY DIVISION
 

At this rock, SSgt Arnold "Ray" LAMBERT set up the first casualty collection point on Omaha Beach. In honor of the Combat Medics - men who placed their lives on the line to save their comrades. Their professionalism, dedication, and heroism gave their units the confidence to prevail in the face of extraordinary danger on D-Day.

Derrière ce rocher le SSGT Arnold "Ray" LAMBERT a implanté le premier point de rassemblement des blessés à Omaha Beach. En honneur des infirmiers et medecins: des hommes qui ont mis leur vie en péril pour sauver leurs camarades. Leur professionalisme, dévouement et héroïsme ont donné à leurs unités le courage d'affronter un danger extrême le Jour J.
