Combat Medics - 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division Plaque
Thomas Jackson was born in 1920 in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Army on January 16, 1942 at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents. He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fourth Grade and a combat medic in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument and plaque in Ray's Rock in Omaha Beach, France and ranked as a Sergeant.
