<< Back to Ennis

Details:

In the park against a wall.

Monument

A rectangular upright metal inscribed monument with the names of Irish war dead inscribed on the front. Brass inscribed scenes of the Vietnam War are located around the top of the monument.

The memorial remembers 29 Irish died while fighting with Allied Forces, mostly the United States, during the Vietnam War.  These dead include the Navy Cross recipient Marine Bob Gallagher and DCS recipient 1LT Anthony O'Reilly among those honored. The list also teams Nurse Pamela Donovan of the 85th Evacuation Hospital who died while serving in Vietnam.

Many of those listed on this memorial are also buried in Isolated Graves in Ireland.

The memorial was dedicated in 2016.

Monument Text:

This memorial is dedicated to the Irish men and Irish women who served with allied forces in South-East Asia during the period 1964 through 1975.
