Michael Murphy was born on February 12, 1948, in Waltham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Brenda M. Murphy. Michael served in Company I, 3d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, as a Lance Corporal during the Vietnam War. LCpl Murphy died from his wounds received in battle on May 26, 1968, when he was hit with a large volley of incoming small arms fire. He was evacuated to the First Hospital Company in Da Nang where he died several hours later as a result of the gunshot wound he had sustained to his head from the hostile rifle fire. LCpl Murphy is now buried in Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Waltham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
