Bernard Anthony Freyne was born on May 13, 1945, in Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, Ireland. He was the son of Brian Freyne and Mary Freyne. Bernard was living in Queens, New York with his brother Christopher when he enlisted in the Marines.
Bernard served in Company M, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, as a Lance Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was Killed in Action on March 10, 1967, by an explosive device. LCpl Freyne is now buried in Kilcolman New Cemetery, County Roscommon, Ireland.
