Edward Michael Howell was born on June 22, 1937, in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. He was the husband of Bridget Howell. Edward served in Company C, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Howell was seriously wounded in action on March 11, 1967, during an engagement with hostile forces in Kontum Province, while on Operation Sam Houston. He died in a hospital in Japan from his wounds on April 17, 1967. He was posthumously promoted to Sergeant First Class. SFC Howell is now buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Glasnevin, County Dublin, Ireland.
