Brian served in Company A, 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, as a Corporal during the Vietnam War. Cpl McCarthy died from his wounds received in battle on May 10, 1970, and is now buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA.
