B24 42-51116 'Nature's Nymph' Plaque
Details:
Inside the church, below the 446th Bomber Group Association plaque.
A rectangular horizontally oriented plaque on a wooden back board inscribed in English in engraved lettering. The plaque commemorates the crew of the #42-51116 who died in the crash of their airplane. Returning from an aborted mission to Alencon, France, the aircraft crashed at Corner Farm, Rumburgh, on 7 June 1944. Although there are conflicting reports, it seems that there were 8 crew members killed and 2 survivors. Below this plaque, the picture of Sgt Charles A. Peck (right waist gunner) was placed. The plaque is not quite accurate; one crewmember who died is not named, and at least one name is misspelled.
