Robert Andrew McKinley, Jr., aged 20, was born on July 5, 1923, in Greenfield, Indiana. He was the son of Robert A. McKinley and Ruth P. McKinley.

Robert served in the 705th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator of the B24 42-51116 'Nature's Nymph' in World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 7, 1944, when the aircraft he was aboard crashed into Rumburgh, England. He is now buried in the Winchester National Cemetery, Winchester, Winchester City, Virginia, in the same grave with three members of his crew.
