Plaque
A black rectangular plaque honoring six American soldiers who died on August 4, 1944. The plaque displays the names and ranks of the fallen, written in French with gold lettering.
On August 4, 1944, the town of Landelles-et-Coupigny became a focal point in the Allied advance under Operation Cobra, aimed at breaking through German lines after the hard-fought success in Saint-Lô. In the challenging, hedgerow-laden landscape around Landelles, the 29th Infantry Division encountered heavily entrenched German forces. This dense terrain led to close-quarters combat, complicating the Allies' advance even with strong artillery support and armored reinforcements. Amidst these intense battles, six American soldiers lost their lives while working to push German defenses out of Landelles-et-Coupigny.
