Gano Haines “Sonny” Jewell was born on September 21, 1923, in Westville, Otsego County, New York. He was the son of Harold Gano Jewell and Jewel Martin Parslow Jewell. He enlisted in the n the army reserve in November 1942.
Gano served in the Medical Detachment, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 4, 1944, during the liberation of Landelles-et-Coupigny, France. PFC Jewell is now buried in the Westville Cemetery, Middlefield, Otsego County, New York, USA.
