Anzio Landing Museum/Anzio Beachhead Research and Documentation Center. A museum dedicated to remembering and research into Operation Shingle and the Anzio Beachhead operations of 1944.
A wonderfully developed and maintained small museum, staffed by extremely knowledgeable docents. The museum presents Operation Shingle/Anzio Landings and the Anzio beachhead operation from the American, British, Italian and German perspectives. The collection includes uniforms equipment, maps and heroic anecdotes.
A portion of the museum is dedicated to the Nurses of Anzio to include Second Lieutenant Ellen Ainsworth who was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for her heroism during the battle. Ainsworth and several other nurses were KIA on the Anzio beachhead. The nearby Sicily-Rome American Memorial Cemetery in Nettuno is the final resting place for many women to include Ainsworth.
