Technical Sergeant Josephine J Strohecker, born in 1917, was the daughter of Harvey O and Jennie Irene (Wert) Strohecker of Millersburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Millersburg is on the Susquehanna River about 30 miles north of Harrisburg. In the 1920 census 2-year-old Josephine is living with his parents and siblings Harn 15, Helen 12, Renee 8, and Herman. 5, at 617 Union Street in Millersburg. Her father works in a shoe factory.In the 1930 census 12-year-old Josephine is living with her parents and siblings Helen 23, Renee 18, and Herman 15, at 468 Moore Street in Millersburg. Her father is still at the shoe factory.In the 1938 Harrisburg city directory Josephine is listed as an attendant at the Heidelberg State Hospital.In the 1940 census 22-year-old Josephine is living and working as an attendant at the Warnersville State Mental Hospital in South Heidelberg, Berks County, PA.Josephine enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps 1 Oct 1942 in Dauphin County. She’d had four years of high school and was single without dependents. Her civil occupation was listed under clerks, general office.The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Pennsylvania show Strohecker, J J, T Sgt from Dauphin County as DNB (Died Non-Battle). Sgt Strohecker died from respiratory paralysis on 15 Jun 1945 in a hospital in Naples, Italy. ~
