Huelgoat Liberation Marker - 6th Armored Division

Marker

A headstone-style stele bearing a rectangular bronze plaque that is written in French and English listing the names of the American soldiers who were killed during the liberation of the town. In 1944, Huelgoat was liberated on 5 and 6 August 1944 by American troops 6th Armored Division, helped by about twenty local resistance fighters. The fighting resulted in the death of American soldiers, a resistance fighter, and a dozen German soldiers. In addition, four Nazis shot dead twelve Huelgoatains.
