B-26 42-96224 Plaque
Details:
On the façade of the town hall. It is mounted on the wall on the left side of the entrance door.
A rectangular stone plaque inscribed in French in black lettering. The plaque commemorates one British aviator as well as six American aviators who were on the crew of the B-26 #42-96224 of the 585th US Bomber Squadron. The American crew crashed in the town on August 7, 1944. That day, their mission was to bomb the bridge at Nogent-sur-Seine but they were shot by flak and crashed. The only survivor in the crash was SSgt Bishop who became a POW for the duration of the war.
