Rex Paul Taylor was born on July 3, 1923, in Elgin, Comanche County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Henry Lafayette "Fate" Taylor and Maude Elizabeth Cost Taylor. He was married to Nona Mae Norris Taylor. He graduated from Cache High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year. During his military service, he served with distinction in France, Germany, and Belgium. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.
Rex later completed two tours in Korea and three tours in Vietnam during his lengthy military career. After 27 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Army in 1969. Following his military retirement, he served for fifteen years as vice president of the First State Bank of Cache. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cache, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also belonged to ASCOG and the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the AUSA. From 1970 to 1977, he served as mayor of Cache and was also involved with the Cache Chamber of Commerce. He died on January 21, 2000, and is now buried in the Cache Cemetery, Cache, Comanche County, Oklahoma, USA.
