Kenyard Carrol “Stuff” Poteet was born on May 14, 1923, in Bowie, Montague County, Texas. He was the son of William Kenyard Poteet and Willie Frances McCarrell Poteet. He was married to Charlene Janett White Poteet. He graduated from Wellington High School in the Class of 1942. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

T5 Poteet entered the trucking business. Following his father’s death, he assumed full ownership of the business. He also owned and operated Poteet Supply for many years, furnishing wire and posts to farmers and ranchers throughout the area. He died on November 16, 1984, and is now buried in the South Fairview Cemetery, Wellington, Collingsworth County, Texas, USA.
