James Henry Patman was born on August 23, 1923, in Seagoville, Texas. He was married to Helen Harris Patman. He entered military service on February 19, 1943. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

T4 Patman was honorably discharged on January 4, 1946. He died on June 28, 1981, and is now buried in the Ables Springs Cemetery, Kaufman County, Texas, USA.
