Glenn Harrison Murray was born on June 16, 1923, in Woods County, Oklahoma. He was the son of William Harrison Murray and Laura Effie Morland Murray. After graduating from Freedom High School, he was drafted into the United States Army on February 22, 1943. He completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, before being assigned to Camp Bouse, Arizona, for additional training. He later returned to Fort Knox before his overseas deployment. SSgt Murray served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

SSgt Murray died on February 11, 2000, and is now buried in the Freedom Cemetery, Freedom, Woods County, Oklahoma, USA.
