LeRoy C. Meyer Sr. was born on March 30, 1919, in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. He was the husband of Helen L. Kelly Meyer. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

Following the war, he worked as a locomotive engineer for the Nickle Plate Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring in 1980 after 40 years of service. He died on July 15, 2009, and is now buried in the Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, USA.
