Jay Dean “J.D.” Kirkpatrick was born on August 14, 1923, in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Herman N. Kirkpatrick and Blanche Kirkpatrick. He was married to Lois Jo "Jody" Vining Kirkpatrick. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1941, where he played on the 1940 and 1941 Coyote football teams. T4 Kirkpatrick served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

After his military service, he became co-owner of Kirk’s Car Lot until his retirement. He dedicated 15 years to coaching Kid League Baseball, also contributing to youth sports through the Boys Club and YMCA. He died on May 20, 2000, and is now buried in the Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas, USA.
