Elzie W. “Jonesy” Jones was born on April 25, 1923, in Bennington, Bryan County, Oklahoma. He was the son of John Henry Jones and Rozella Jones. He was married to Lillian Marie Garrison Jones. He enlisted in the service on February 22, 1943. PFC Jones served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

Following his military service, he worked for over 30 years with J. Briscoe Road Construction and later for Pittsburg County District No. 3 in road maintenance until retiring in the 1990s. He died on September 30, 2006, and is now buried in the Ulan Cemetery, Ulan, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, USA.
