Jesse Frank James Jr. was born on April 1, 1923, in Hennepin, Garvin County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jesse Frank James Sr. and Della L. Sewell James. He was married to Marjorie M. Krause James. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort. He was also recognized as one of the U.S. Army personnel involved in the capture of German rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.
Following his military service, Jesse worked as an ironworker and was a member of the ironworkers union until his retirement. He lived in Davis and Moore before settling in Harrah, where he was an active member of the Methodist Church until entering the VA Center in Norman. He died on February 24, 2011, and is now buried in the Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA.
