Boyd Leroy “Tarp” Graves was born on November 25, 1922, in Fairvalley, Woods County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Boyd Miles Graves and Elsie Armstrong McCorkle Graves. He was first married to Bobbie Jean Estes Graves and later to Frieda Martha Pshigoda Graves. T4 Graves served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

T4 Graves died on April 17, 2000, and is now buried in the Preston Hill Cemetery, Woods County, Oklahoma, USA.
