Robert Frank Fleckenstein was born on February 10, 1923, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He was married to Martha Rutkosky. He entered military service on March 17, 1943, and trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Sgt Fleckenstein served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

Sgt Fleckenstein died on October 1, 2006, and is now buried in the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA.
