Harold Houston Duncan was born on July 10, 1922, in Red River County, Texas. He was the son of Samuel Richard Duncan and Lucy Belle Kincaid Duncan. He served in the United States Army during World War II, entering service in February 1943. He served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort. He saw combat in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded on December 27, 1944. He was honorably discharged as a Technician Fourth Grade.
After the war, he lived a civilian life in Texas, remained active in his church, worked in the auto sales business, and was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He died on April 15, 2000, and is now buried in the Ravenna Cemetery, Ravenna, Fannin County, Texas, USA.
