James Leonard “Jimmie” Wise Jr. was born on April 14, 1915, in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of James Leonard Wise Sr. and Eliza Stephens Wise. He was married to Ida Ebarbo Wolfersperger. He volunteered for service on September 12, 1941. He trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Camp Campbell, Kentucky, and had been overseas since August 1944. SSgt Wise served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.
SSgt Wise was killed in action on February 28, 1945, in Germany. He is now buried in the Silver Creek Cemetery, Leesville, Vernon Parish, Louisiana, USA.
