Cecil Bundy “Pete” Brown was born on August 13, 1921, in Van Zandt County, Texas. He was the son of William Harley Brown and Carrie Virginia Huddle Brown. Cpl Brown served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

On April 13, 1945, during an advance on Vörde, Germany, in support of the 13th Infantry, Corporal Brown’s tank was struck by enemy fire. He and two fellow crew members were killed in action. He is now buried in the Terry County Memorial Cemetery, Brownfield, Terry County, Texas, USA.
