1Lt Roland A. Remick Memorial

<< Back to Wurselen

Details:

On the edge of a field along Fastradaallee.

Monument

The monument comprises a wooden cross holding an inscription and portraits of 1Lt Roland A. Remick and one German civilian representing all who died during battles nearby as U.S. 30th and 29th Infantry Divisions cleared pockets of resistance after they took the city of Aachen during late 1944.

Although U.S. Forces took Aachen in October 1944, German Forces in the surrounding area continued to resist for six weeks, until late November 1944. There are still 20 U.S. Soldiers missing from combat around Würselen.

This is the first of two local memorials to military and civilian casualties of World War II. In June 2013, the Interdisciplinary Research Group for Contemporary History (interdisziplinäre Forschungsgruppe für Zeitgeschichte (ZIF)) erected this cross on the edge of the Wurm valley southwest of Würselen.
