Commemorative ObjectThe engine displayed at the memorial is a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp radial aircraft engine, the same type used to power the Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft that carried American paratroopers during World War II. The R-1830 is a 14-cylinder, air-cooled radial engine arranged in two rows of seven cylinders, first introduced in 1932 and widely used on many Allied aircraft, including the C-47 transport and the B-24 Liberator bomber.
