On the north side of the triangle. The plaque is mounted on the rail guard of the bridge.
Plaque
A rectangular white plaque commemorating Cpt Makins of the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division who was killed on September 28, 1944. The plaque is written in English and French.
Note: According to ABMC, he died on September 29, 1944.
By the summer of 1944, Captain Makins and his division were heavily involved in the Allied push through France. On September 28, 1944, Makins was leading his company near Laveline-du-Houx, a small village about 10 miles east of Epinal. He was killed while attempting to secure the bridge over Le Barba Creek during the liberation efforts in the area.
