The liberation of Tousson on August 23, 1944, was part of the broader Allied offensive following Operation Dragoon, which started with landings in southern France on August 15, 1944. Tousson, a small was liberated by Allied forces advancing northward as they pushed German troops into retreat. Among the soldiers fighting for the liberation was Private First Class Mark E. Blinn, from the 5th Infantry Division. During the battle around Tousson, Blinn was wounded and succumbed to his injuries on August 22, 1944.

The liberation of the town was a coordinated effort between Allied forces and local French Resistance fighters. Together, they worked to disrupt German supply lines and weaken the retreating forces. Despite facing stiff resistance from German troops, the liberation of Tousson marked another victory in the series of towns freed by the Allies in their drive toward Paris.
