Monument

A stone slab monument bearing a rectangular black plaque mounted at the center written in French commemorating 1Lt Potts who died on August 10, 1944, and a brief history about him. Potts, who served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 9th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army's 2nd Infantry Division, was killed in action on August 10, 1944, during the liberation of the area. His bravery and ultimate sacrifice during the battle to liberate France made him a symbol of the Allied effort to free Europe from Nazi occupation.

 

The memorial at the church serves as a local tribute to his memory, marking the town's respect for the soldiers who gave their lives in the defense of freedom.

Décédé le 10 août 1944 dans l'Incendie

de son véhicule militaire, ici méme.

Tom servit dans le célébre régiment des "Manchus''

et prit part aux combats a St Lô et â Vire.

Grand acteur Hollywoodien dans les années

1930 â 1940 sous le surnorn de Roben FISKE,

Son rôle le plus célèbre fut "le sergent DRILL"

dans "Boobs in Arms" avec les ''Three Stooges".

Il repose au cimetière Américain de St James.

Thomas POTTS

Died on August 10, 1944 in the Fire of his military vehicle, here. 

Tom served in the famous "Manchus" regiment and took part 

in the fighting at St. Lo and Vire.  A great Hollywood actor in the 

1930s and 1940s under the nickname of Roben FISKE,  

his most famous role was "Sergeant DRILL" in 

"Boobs in Arms" with the "Three Stooges". 

He is buried in the American cemetery of St. James.
