A brass plaque with a shiny brass center mounted to a wall.
The plaque remembers the liberation of Chartres, France in August 1944 by the 7th Armored Division - "Lucky Seventh" of the XX Corps, 3rd US Army.
The center portion of the plaque is a letter from the XX Corps Commander, Major General Walton Walker to the 7th Armored Division. The XX Cops G-3, Colonel Wellborn Griffith, was recognized as saving the Cathedral of Chartres during the fighting to liberate the city. Colonel Griffith was killed in nearby Lèves and is remembered there on two plaques (See site Lèves).
