2Lt Henry G. Hyde Memorial

<< Back to Saint-Martin-de-Blagny Home

Details:

On the west side of the road.

Marker

An upright stele bearing a rectangular black plaque that commemorates 2Lt Hyde. The plaque is inscribed in French in gold and incised lettering. Depicted on the right corner of the plaque is a P-47 plane.

Second Lieutenant Hank Hyde's plane crashed into a field at Saint Martin de Blagny on June 7, 1944. Hank was able to get out of the P-47 Thunderbolt and run a few steps before being shot by Germans who had followed the smoke trail. In 2014, Mr. and Mrs. Demazier honored Hyde with a memorial service held in their field.
