Henry George “Hank” Hyde was born on August 17, 1923, in New York. He served in the 390th Fighter Squadron, 366th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II.
On June 7, 1944, 2Lt Hyde from the Thruxton base in England, for a reconnaissance mission in the Grandcamp sector in France. His plane was hit by the enemy flak and crashed in the town of Saint-Martin-de-Blagny. 2Lt Hyde was killed in the crash. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
