Monument

The memorial is housed in the 12th century Chapelle de la Madeleine and includes several displays remembering the two US Divisions that liberated the city of Saint Lô, France.

The city of Saint Lô. was liberated by the 29th “Blue and Gray” Infantry Division and by the 35th “Santa Fe” Infantry Division in July 1944 during Operation Cobra.  The memorial has a museum feel to it as several displays and each division has a wall to commemorate its participation in the liberation of the city. The front wall includes tributes to the two division commanders: Major General Paul W. Baade, 35th Infantry Division and Major General Charles H. Gerhardt, 29th Infantry Division.
