Karl J Heimark was born in Austevoll, Norway. He went to sea in 1939 and landed in America in 1941 due to illness. He later volunteered for the US Army and served with the 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate), which was comprised of Norwegian and Norwegian-American soldiers.
He was killed in battle during the Canal Drive liberation of Belgian Limburg. A memorial (2nd Armored Division) in Geleen, Netherlands remembers his sacrifice.
