Karl Johan Heimark was born on October 27, 1914, in Austevoll, Norway. His parents were Kari Anna and Hans Jakobsen. He went to sea in 1939 and landed in America in 1941 due to illness. He later volunteered for the US Army and served with the 99th Infantry Battalion (Separate), ranked as Private First Class. He was killed in action on September 20, 1944, at the age of 29. PFC Heimark is now buried in the Austevoll Cemetery, Hordaland Fylke, Norway. He was killed in battle during the Canal Drive liberation of Belgian Limburg.
