<< Back to Loiano

Details:

About 15 feet off the main road in the small park behind a yellow sign marker.

Monument

The monument is made of concrete on a rock base with an inscribed brass plaque inset. The concrete portion includes the shape of a soldier with several symbols below the soldier to include the insignias of: Town of Loiano; 5th Army; US Army; 91st Infantry Division and the 362nd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division.

From the Division History about Loiano:

The enemy fell back rapidly to their next defensive position at Loiano, with the 91st swiftly following their retreat. On 5 October, under a rolling barrage the 362nd Infantry captured the town and M. Bastia, the peak which dominates it. On either side of the position the whole line surged forward.
