Howell Elwood Wrench was born on September 2, 1925 in Sampson County, North Carolina. He was the son of Ollie Wrench and Myrtle McPhail Wrench. Howell served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on December 28, 1944 in Belgium at the age of 19 and is now buried in Honeycutt-Matthews Cemetery, Clement, Sampson County, North Carolina, USA.
