Description:

The Aeronatical Museum in Belgrade is a large museum showcasing the history of the Yugoslavian and Serbian civil and military aviation. Founded in 1957 and housed since 1989 in its current location adjacent to Belgrad International Airport, the museum holds a vast collection of aircraft, military weapons systems, support equipment and other artifacts and records. In one ground-floor section with the theme ‘’Exhibits that Fell from the Sky’’ the Museum displays wreckage of U.S. aircraft downed during Operation Allied Force airstrikes against then-Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999, including one F-117A Night Hawk, one F-16C Fighting Falcon, and MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial system.Displays also include aircraft and other equipment the U.S. provided to Yugoslavia through various programs during about 1951-1967, notably a 1951 Mutual Assistance Agreement during the Cold War to counter Soviet influence after the 1948 Stalin-Tito split. [NOTE: In 1999, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia comprised territories now recognized by the U.S. as Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo (then still within Serbia).]
