The square by Centron town hall was named for US Marine then-Major Peter Ortiz, who during Office of Strategic Services (OSS) deployment supporting French Resistance in World War II saved the town from German annihilation by surrendering his team with honor.

The Centron town hall is situated in the building of a former train station in the village of Centron. Centron is part of the Aime-la-Plagne commune, situated along the N90 highway, approximately 170 kilometers east of Lyon, near the border junction of France, Switzerland, and Italy.
