Ingouf Farm, also Colonel Robert G. Cole’s command post, is situated in the southwest of the town about 1.8 km from the town hall. This is located about 230 meters southwest of the D971 and D974 roundabout. The site served as a fortified German stronghold during the Battle of Carentan, posing a significant challenge to American forces advancing inland after D-Day. On June 11, 1944, Colonel Robert G. Cole led a famous bayonet charge to dislodge the defenders, securing the site, which then became a command post for American operations.
