Otto C. Carlson was born on April 23, 1877, in Motala, Östergötland, Sweden. He married Ida Bell Long on September 1, 1911, in Kansas City, Missouri. They had two children during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a First Lieutenant in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on August 17, 1918 (at the age of 41) in France and is now buried in Grandview Cemetery, Albany, Gentry County, Missouri, USA.
