William Aloysius Diekhaus was born on August 12, 1888, in New York, New York County, New York. He was the son of Henry Diekhaus and Katherine Grabe Diekhaus. He entered the military service in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 23, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT W A DICKHAUS.
