When John T. Cheatham was born in November 1888 in Illinois, his father, Albert, was 45 and his mother, Caroline, was 22. He had one brother. He entered the military service in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as a Private First Class.
