Weston Fisher Melson was born on May 10, 1917 in Tipton, Iowa. He was the son of Alfred Orien Melson and Clara Ann Kensinger Melson. He was a high school teacher as well as coach in Zearing and Bondurant, Iowa.
Weston served in the 386th Bomber Group, Medium, as a First Lieutenant and co-pilot of the B-26 Maurauder named the "Son of Satan" during World War II. He married just nine months before being killed. He was Killed in Action on November 18, 1944 at the age of 27, when their plane was shot down during a bombing raid over Germany. 1Lt Melson is now buried in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Lincoln County, Nebraska, USA in the same grave with 1LT Holm. His name is also commemorated on a monument located at Great Dunmow, England, but his surname is spelled Nelson.
