When Cyril Frederick Carder was born on June 6, 1893, in Wordsley, Staffordshire, England, his father, Frederick, was 29 and his mother, Annie, was 29. He had one brother and one sister. He entered the military service in New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Second Lieutenant in Company D, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. A cenotaph made for him is located at Hope Cemetery Annex, Corning, Steuben County, New York, USA.
