Edward C. Brauner Sr. was born on July 24, 1916, in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Mary Winifred "Mamie" Speyer Brauner. He served in the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. Pvt Brauner was Killed in Action on August 6, 1944, during the liberation of Loué, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
